Emerging at the end of the 18th century, as the result of the French revolution, Directoire is a combination of Greek and Roman styles.
The style is mainly reflected in furniture and is defined by its smaller scale and minimal ornamentation. It is a restrained style which uses veneers, brass and wood inlays and motifs and carvings of Greek forms.
